A Permanent Solution for a Confident Smile

Fixed Implant supported dentures are a state-of-the-art dental solution that combines the durability of dental implants with the comprehensive functionality of full-arch dentures. These prosthetics are securely anchored to dental implants, offering unparalleled stability and eliminating the need for adhesives or removal. Designed to mimic the appearance and function of natural teeth, fixed hybrid dentures provide a permanent option for patients who are missing all their teeth in the upper, lower, or both arches.

Unlike traditional dentures, which can shift or feel uncomfortable, fixed hybrid dentures stay in place, allowing patients to enjoy their favorite foods and speak with confidence. Beyond functionality, they are crafted with precision to match the natural aesthetics of your smile, enhancing your overall appearance and self-esteem. With proper care and regular maintenance, these dentures can last 10+ (material dependant), making them a long-term investment in your oral health and quality of life. At Pearl Denture & Implant Centre, we work closely with each patient to customize their treatment plan, ensuring comfort, precision, and a solution tailored to their unique needs.

Your Step-by-Step Journey

Fixed hybrid dentures are completed in two distinct phases. After being assessed and approved for implant placement by your dentist or oral surgeon, you’ll begin the next steps of your treatment with your denturist. Each phase is tailored to ensure precision, comfort, and optimal results.

Implant Candidacy

Both your denturist and surgeon will ensure you are an eligible candidate for a fixed implant supported denture. A comprehensive examination of both medical and dental history must be done along with ensuring patients mental health is stable. The following is assessed and can affect implant treatment if it is not properly managed.

  • Smoking

  • Mental Health

  • Joint replacement

  • Diabetes

  • Blood disease

  • Sleep Apnea

  • Cancer

  • Heart conditions

  • Bruxism / Clenching

  • Autoimmune disease

Phase One: Preparing for Your Fixed Hybrid Dentures

Phase one involves extracting any remaining natural teeth and placing the implants. Once the implants are successfully integrated, you will transition to phase two, where your final prosthetic is fabricated and inserted. During phase one, depending on if there are any extractions of natural teeth - a temporary denture must be fabricated beforehand to heal in and ensure everything is idealized before phase 2.
The following appointments may be required*:

  • Consultation, Exam, Preliminary Impressions, Bite Records

  • Final Impressions and Bite Record (if needed)

  • Pick-Up Appointment for Dentures Before Extraction Surgery

This timeline is an estimate and may involve fewer or additional appointments based on your unique case.

In some eligible cases, surgical dentures can be immediately converted into temporary fixed hybrid dentures after implant placement. This approach allows patients to maintain some functionality and aesthetics during the healing period but is NOT available to each patient based on the case. However, it’s important to note that temporary fixed hybrid dentures do not have a metal framework, making them more prone to fractures and repairs. Patients are encouraged to exercise caution during this transitional time.

If immediate conversion is not possible due to surgical planning, you may wear surgical dentures as a traditional denture until healing is complete (a minimum of four-six months). During this period, tissue conditioner treatments will help maintain comfort and function while you recover.

Phase Two: Finalizing Your Fixed Hybrid Dentures

Once your implants have healed and been verified by your dentist (typically 3–6 months after surgery), your denturist will begin creating your final prosthetic. Fabricating your permanent fixed hybrid dentures typically involves the following appointments*:

  • Re-Consultation, Exam, Preliminary Impressions (if needed)

  • Final Impressions Using a Custom Tray

  • Bite Records, Custom Jig Verification, Tooth Selection

  • Second Bite Record Appointment / Wax Try-In

  • Second Wax Try-In (if needed)

  • Titanium Bar Try-In

  • Final Wax Try-In with the Titanium Bar

  • Insert Prosthetic and Mouth Guard

  • Adjustment Appointments as Needed

This timeline is an estimate and may involve fewer or additional appointments depending on individual needs.

After your final prosthetic is inserted, adjustment appointments may be necessary to ensure proper fit and comfort. During this period, we recommend starting with softer foods, practicing speaking, and smiling in front of a mirror to help your body adjust to the new prosthetic.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Fixed hybrid dentures are a combination of dental implants and a prosthetic arch, offering a secure, permanent solution for patients missing all their natural teeth. They provide enhanced stability, functionality, and aesthetics compared to traditional dentures.

  • Candidates must have sufficient bone density and good oral health to support implants. A consultation with your dentist, oral surgeon, or denturist is necessary to determine your suitability for this treatment.

  • The entire process typically spans several months. Phase one includes tooth extraction and implant placement, followed by a healing period of 3–6 months. Phase two involves creating and fitting your final prosthetic, which can take 6–9 appointments over a couple of months.

  • Regular maintenance is essential to ensure the longevity of your dentures and implants. This includes:

    • Relines: Typically needed every 1–2.5 years as your gums and bone structure change.

    • Replacements: Recommended every 5–7 years to maintain optimal function and comfort.

    • Professional Cleaning: Regular cleaning prevents plaque buildup and preserves the appearance and functionality of your prosthetic.

  • Discomfort or looseness may occur if components, such as the plastic rings or attachments, wear out. These can be replaced during routine maintenance to restore fit and stability. If you experience persistent discomfort, schedule an appointment for adjustments.

  • Daily cleaning with a soft toothbrush and non-abrasive denture cleaner is essential to maintain oral hygiene and prevent staining. We also recommend scheduling professional cleaning services to ensure your dentures stay in excellent condition.
